Writing a Group Story

How

To write a group story, have someone from the group start with an opening sentence. Then, moving the speaking position in a circle (if you are in person) or passing it on (if you are online), each person in the group adds a sentence to the story.

The sentence does not need to be directly linked to what has already been said! People are also welcome to add questions, exclamations, dialogue, etc.

As people add their sentence(s) someone should be writing it all down. At the end, the scribe reads the story out loud.

Why

The surprise-nature of this activity keeps everyone hooked to find out where the story leads the group to. It is a fun, creative, and fast way to create something that people have shared ownership of.
