Making Online Breaks Fun

Imitate a house party set-up:

Using a software that allows you to have breakout groups with names, set up rooms with names like:  ‘

  • garden

  • living room

  • kitchen

  • balcony

If possible, change the software settings so that participants can choose which room they would like to go to. This should give people the freedom to come and go between rooms, just as if they were at a house party.

If you want to help get the conversation going, you can assign a topic to each of the rooms like ‘favourite shoes', 'incredible insects', 'comfort food'.

This is a good way to get to know other people in the group informally. It also gives people autonomy to have the ability to choose which conversations to take part in.
